STILLWATER PROVIDES A TELLING TEST FOR BRUINS

Scores of Bartlesville High School cross country runners swept Saturday over the cross country course plains at Oklahoma State. When the dust settled, the Bruin and Lady Bruin teams —which showed no micro-drop of quit — had acquitted themselves most nicely. The Bruin varsity steamrolled to second place — out of dozens of teams — in the varsity boys run. Three Bruins finished in the top 13 — Henry Williams, third; James Martinez, seventh; and Nathan Lauritsen, 13th. Williams ran the 5K course in 16:18.6. But, Bartlesville turned in its best showing — and there is only one place higher than runner-up — in the middle school boys varsity race. The Bartlesville junior high course stompers stampeded to the team championship, while scoring just 87 points. Max Williams burst to fourth place overall to lead the Bruins, followed by Asher Childress in 15th. The Bartlesville Middle School girls squad came in second, led by overall race champion Jillian Skalicky. Jaci Decker finished next for the Lady Bruin junior high set, with a 12th place showing. In the junior varsity boys run, Bartlesivlle came in fifth — topped by Tyler Linthacum, who came in seventh – while the Lady Bruin jayvee squad harvested eighth place. Laren Cotch led the unit with a 39th-place finish. Bartlesville’s varsity girls crew took sixth overall. Shay Stayton led the Lady Bruins by thundering across the finish line in third place, followed by Rilee Rigdon ini 11th.
