Bruins Start off Hot in First Tennis Match
Here are the results from our first tennis tournament of the season. The boys and girls both played today in the Jenks Invitational Tennis Tournament. The girls finished 5th as a team out of 16 teams. The boys finished 8th as a team out of 16 teams. This tournament is the toughest one we play all year, with all of the top teams from every class participating. I was very pleased with our performance, and even though we have work to do on specific issues, we have make strides as individual players and as a team.
Erin Epperson started the season strong, taking 1st place in Girls #1 singles. She played confidently, moved incredibly well, and was consistent and accurate in her shotmaking. She played a great finals match against Jenks, coming back from a set down to win it in a supertiebreaker.
Megan Turcotte had an awesome day at #2 Singles, placing 5th. She beat solid opponents from Enid, Metro Christian, and Union. She had worked very hard to improve her game over the past year, truly committing her time and efforts to the game. It showed in her performance today.
Both Girls #1 and #2 Doubles went 3-1 today, losing their first round but then coming back, winning the consolation draw. I liked their competitiveness, they did not let the first round get them down, but fought back for the remainder of the day. Both teams showed great chemistry, and I look forward to watching them develop as the season goes on.
Robert Meszaros won a great first round match, upsetting the #6 seeded Union player in a third set supertiebreaker. He ended up placing 8th, losing close matches to Broken Arrow and Edmond North in the process.
Boys #1 Doubles (Colin Henthorne/Daniel Meszaros) had a great start to the season. They beat a solid Broken Arrow team in the first round, then lost to the #1 seeded Cascia Hall team in a tight match. They then beat the 5th seeded Jenks team in the third round, which was a great win for us. We then lost to a tough Edmond North team to place 6th out of 16.
