LIBERTY FOOTBALL IN PLAYOFFS

Twenty seven Shore Conference teams have unofficially qualified for the NJSIAA Football Playoffs, according to unofficial tabulations by the Asbury Park Press, Gannett New Jersey and newspapers across the state. The NJSIAA will release the official playoff pairings and dates and times for the games and the matchups for the consolation games - games involving teams who did not qualify for the playoffs - on Sunday at NJSIAA headquarters The top eight teams in the power points in each section qualify, regardless of record. Only a team's first eight game count toward qualification and only a team's best seven power point games count toward its final power point total. The playoffs begin with first-round games at the top four seeds in each section Friday and Saturday. The sectional semifinals are Nov. 20-21 at the top two remaining seeds in each section and the sectional championship games are Dec. 3-5 at MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, Rutgers University's High Point Solutions Stadium, Kean University and Rowan University. Qualifying for the playoffs was Jackson Liberty (4-5) in Central Group IV. It is the second playoff berth in Jackson Liberty's nine-year history as a varsity program. It also qualified in 2012 and is still looking for its first playoff win. Jackson Liberty's overtime win over co-Class B South champion Point Boro on Oct. 30 was a major reason it qualified. The Lions, who qualified by three points over Northern Burlington after Northern Burlington lost to Hopewell Valley, will play at Brick Memorial in the first round.
