HUTCH SOCCER FALLS IN REGIONAL FINAL
The Hutchinson High soccer team’s defense had another stellar game in Thursday’s Class 6A Central/South Central Regional championship game.
Playing a strong Manhattan team, Hutchinson allowed just one goal, which came in the 12th minute. But that was enough to send Manhattan to the state quarterfinals, as the Indians edged Hutchinson 1-0.
The Salthawks end the season 11-7.
Hutchinson came into the game having allowed just one goal in its last eight games and nine in its last 15 games.
“I was really proud of them,” Hutchinson coach Brad Binns said. “It was an admirable performance to watch. But it’s not just the guys at the back. It’s the whole unit. It starts at the top with guys pressuring.”
Manhattan improved to 15-3.
The Salthawks had a few chances later in the game to send the game to overtime, but couldn’t break down the Manhattan defense.
