JACKSON LIBERTY REMAINS UNBEATEN IN B-SOUTH
Despite trailing 17-3 with four minutes left in the third quarter the Jackson Liberty Lions rallied to defeat the Barnegat Bengals 20-17 on Friday night.
JJ Goodman stripped a Bengals running back and returned the ball for the first touchdown of the game for the Lions to make the score 17-10. Running back Brad McKelvey scored on a 10 yard touchdown run to tie the game at 17.
The Lions defense stood stall and forced a punt from the Bengals in the fourth quarter.
Jackson Liberty then drove about 30 yards to set up kicker Braden Yorke for the game winning field goal.
Emmanuel Florez finished with two interceptions for the Lions, one in the third quarter and one in the fourth quarter to clinch the victory. Liberty head coach Jim Sharples was thrilled with the gritty away victory for the Lions
“The kids really rose up and made some big plays tonight,” Sharples said. “We got the run game going and our defense made some plays, to get 17 unanswered points for the win is a great for the program.”
