NEW ICE HOCKEY COACH

Valor Christian High School Athletic Director, Jamie Heiner, announced today that George Gwozdecky will be the school’s new head ice hockey coach; “We are so blessed to have George Gwozdecky join the Valor Athletic Department as our Hockey coach. George’s tenure in hockey and his accomplishments as a player, coach and program builder, are so significant; but what has impressed us most is the care and concern he has for young people to nurture and help them grow into competent, caring leaders. He is truly about something bigger than the sport and we are absolutely thrilled to have him join our team.” Gwozdecky is an icon in the sport of Hockey. A four-time Hall of Fame Inductee, he is the only individual to win an NCAA Division I championship as a player (Wisconsin, 1977) as an Assistant Coach (Michigan State, 1986) and as a Head Coach (University of Denver, 2004 and 2005). He also won an NAIA Hockey championship in his first head coaching role at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. George spent the last two years as an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning where the Lightning competed in the Stanley Cup Finals this past season. Coach Gwozdecky brings his incredible coaching experience and gifts to the Valor community with high visions for the future of Valor Ice Hockey. His ability to create powerful relationships, and build programs in which the power of the collective group far exceeds the individual player will bless the Valor community and Ice Hockey program. A Personal Statement from George Gwozdecky “My story of coming to Valor is truly amazing. I was serving as a reference to a friend and an associate on a coaching position at Valor and the more I learned of the school, the more intrigued I became personally. That friend took a different role so I called Jamie to learn more. After speaking with the administration and learning more about the vision of the school and the desire they have to pour into the lives of young people for their greater good in life beyond the sport, I was sold. I am truly excited to apply what I have learned in this great sport, and the lessons of a lifetime of coaching to the Valor student athletes I will have the privilege of working with. I’m anxious to get started!”
